Our Roots

Brainforest Academy began with a purpose- a response to a need.
A personal realization that education should serve the child, not the other way around.

I’m Frisian Waller, a lifelong Montessorian, a mother, and an advocate
for children who learn and grow uniquely. I hold a diploma from Montessori Centre International
in London and have spent years teaching in London, New York, and Seattle.
My background in the military, computer science, and my master’s degree in educational leadership
have given me a deep appreciation for both structure and innovation.
But the most powerful lessons I’ve learned have come from my journey as a mother.
When my child was diagnosed with multiple challenges, I saw firsthand how many schools—despite their best intentions— weren’t designed to support children as they are.
I watched bright, capable children being misunderstood, turned away, or asked to fit into a system
that didn’t honor their potential. I knew there had to be a better way.

So I created Brainforest Academy—not just for children with unique challenges, but for all children. Because every child deserves a place where they feel seen, valued, and supported.
They might be curious explorers, hands-on learners, deep thinkers,
or needs extra flexibility, and that is ok, they all belong here.

We embrace the Montessori philosophy of respect, independence, and hands-on learning.
We believe education should be as dynamic and diverse as the children we serve.
No child should have to change who they are to fit into a school—school should be a place
where every child is empowered to grow into exactly who they are meant to be.
